Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, NYC ($5)
Balaklava / Eastern European Poets Series presents:
EX-YUGOSLAV POETS on the Bowery
Anja Mutic, Ksenija Simic and Filip Marinovich
THE
READERS:
Ksenija Simic was born in Belgrade,
(ex-)Yugoslavia in 1974, where she published a
book of stories in 1997, published prose and poetry
in a number of literary magazines and was involved
in activist and feminist circles. She has been
living in the United States since 1998 and currently
resides in Pittsburgh, PA, where she is finishing
a PhD in mathematics, and about to embark on a
teaching career. She now writes in English.
Anja Mutic is from a country
that doesn't exist. She has been traveling
since 1993. Several continents, countries
and 11 years later appears her collection
of poems called Sketches from a Journey.
Anja is particularly interested in lifting
poetry out of its traditional contexts
and likes to play around with different
media formats. Last year, she created a
spoken word/visual installation and is
currently at work on a poetry/video collaboration.
A limited edition broadside of her poem "BEWARE" is
available from Ugly Duckling Presse.
Filip
Marinovich is a poet and
playwright who works in New York
City, Belgrade, Montenegro, Vienna,
Budapest, Paris and Old Lyme. In
the last few years he authored and
directed the trilogy "Skin Around
the Earth", "A Marriage
Is A Marathon" and "Throne
Room Snow" which played at Red
Room, Central Park Bethesda Fountain
and The Present Company Theatorium
respectively. Last May, Filip wrote
and directed The Karma Bookshop at
the Medicine Show Theater. His poems
and theater texts have been published
in: Hanging Loose, The Emergency
Gazette, 6x6, and New York Nights,
where he is currently the poetry
editor.
