McLulan
Living! Go and Dream is a short novel exploded across 20 tabloid pages, an environment. Newsprint (‘cubist’ says McLuhan) permits the story to happen ALL AT ONCE, you provide the timeline: Read it as you would any daily, following lead stories to their crowded doom in back pages, abandoning them for dish. The paper’s layout is a stickbug mimic of “The New York Times” complete with News Summary, Death Notices, a Letters section and Op-Epilogue. Story involves a nameless reporter for ‘The Bible’ (Heaven’s newspaper of record), a prophetic Talking Infant, a jockey named Pickle Sticks, his horse Buddha, and an endless war.
About the Author
Julien Poirier was a founding member of Ugly Duckling Presse, where he co-edited the first seven issues of 6×6 and edited New York Nights newspaper from 2001 to 2006. He lives in California with his wife and daughters.
Praise
Any paper today is a collective work of art, a daily 'book' of industrial man, an Arabian Night's entertainment in which a thousand and one astonishing tales are being told by an anonymous narrator to an equally anonymous audience.
