Samira Negrouche is a French speaking Algerian poet, living in Algiers. On this rare New York city appearance, Samira will be reading with two poets who are also translators of French literature: Anna Moschovakis and Kristin Prevallet. This event is curated by Matvei Yankelevich of Ugly Duckling Presse, in collaboration with Ahmed Issawi of the Alwan Center for the Arts.

Bios:

Anna Moschovakis’ recent books are “You and Three Others Are Approaching a Lake” (poems) and “The Jokers,” a translation of “La violence et la dérision” by Albert Cossery. She is a member of the Brooklyn-based publishing collective Ugly Duckling Presse.

Kristin Prevallet is the author of four books of poetry including “I, Afterlife: Essay in Mourning Time” (Essay Press), and the edited volume, “A Helen Adam Reader” (The National Poetry Foundation). A former contributing member of the DoubleChange collective, she has translated works by Sony Labou Tansi and Sandra Moussempes, and received a 2004 PEN translation fund award. She works as a hypnotherapist and is currently finishing her next collection of poems, “Everywhere Here and in Brooklyn.”

Samira Negrouche is a French speaking Algerian poet, living in Algiers. She is the author of several poetry collections, amongst others: “À l’ombre de Grenade,” “Iridienne” and “Cabinet Secret” (a book-work with Enan Burgos). Negrouche also translates Arabic poetry and has worked on interdisciplinary projects in many media. Her most recent lecture/show, “sans précaution,” was presented with the Greek singer Angélique Ionatos at the Musée des Moulages in Lyon. Her latest book is “le jazz des oliviers (avec 9 œuvres de Yves Olry)” (Tell, Algeria).
