Join the New York Public Library for the World Literature and Arts Festival at the Library for a poetry reading and discussion featuring writers from Señal, a chapbook series for contemporary Latin American poetry in translation.

Translation is more than a bridge between languages; it is a site of transformation, migration, and new beginnings. Otras Diásporas invites you to spend an evening in the library surrounded by poetry and dialogue featuring writers and translators from Señal, a flagship chapbook series from Ugly Duckling Presse dedicated to contemporary Latin American poetry in translation.

This program includes an exploration of “other” diasporas—the experimental, the sonic, and the linguistically fluid landscapes of modern Latin American poetry. Through a series of readings in both English and Spanish, and an in-depth discussion, this event will examine how these works maintain their spirit as they are interpreted into English, and what is gained in the translation process. Join Urayoán NoelNatasha Tiniacos, and Judah Rubin in conversation moderated by Jennifer Shyue,  this event celebrates the vibrant future of Latin American poetry.
