Small, independent publishing companies publish most of the poetry and much of the best new writing and translations of international work by literary authors in the United States.  The founders of these presses share a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) ethos and the activist desire to interject exciting and challenging writing into American arts and letters  To celebrate small presses, we’ve invited poet Ilya Bernstein, essayist and publisher Catherine Taylor, and poet and publisher Matvei Yankelevich to come to the Writers House. At 4:30 pm, we’ll gather for a panel discussion with Taylor and Yankelevich on the why’s and how’s of small press publishing, and then at 7:30 we’ll host a reading by all three writers from their recent books.
