ROB’S WORD SHOP: Open for Business

A LIVE RECORDING WITH STUDIO AUDIENCE

AT MONTEZ PRESS RADIO

Rob Fitterman (Owner/Operator)

Lawrence Giffin (Records Manager)

Holly Melgard (Customer)

Andy Lampert (Customer)

In May 2010, Rob Fitterman opened and operated Rob’s Word Shop —a storefront shop where individual letters and words were sold — at 308 Bowery, in the south window at the Bowery Poetry Club. Words and letters were either chosen by the individual customers or arrived at with Rob’s assistance. Rob would then hand-write the letter, word, or words. Single letters were sold for 50 cents and single words for one dollar. All of the transactions were recorded and then transcribed by Lawrence Giffin, Records Manager.

On the occasion of the publication of Rob’s Word Shop (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2019), Rob and Lawrence will take to the airwaves to discuss the project, re-enact some exchanges with special guests Andy Lampert and Holly Melgard, and take orders from the listening public and live studio audience.
