Ugly Duckling Presse at Rikhardinkatu Library
The seventh Publishing as Scaffolding event, organized by Rab-Rab Press:
Join us for a presentation from Rebekah Smith, UDP editor, who will talk about scale and community: how a literary arts organization can also be a publisher, and how making books together becomes a way of making a life together. As artists, editors, writers, and translators, UDP works non-hierarchically, attending to the process of creating books that are as pleasurable to hold as they are to read to read, and to practices of generative collaboration. As much as a publisher, UDP and its community are a group of co-conspirators in a daydreaming, bookmaking experiment—making the world we want to live in every minute of every day.
Rebekah will be joined by Helsinki-based UDP author Asiya Wadud. Asiya is a writer, most recently of the collections Mandible Wishbone Solvent and No Knowledge Is Complete Until It Passes Through My Body. Wadud’s work has been supported by Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Foundation Jan Michalski, Tekstintalo Helsinki, and Danspace Project.
Publishing as Scaffolding talks are supported by the Kone Foundation.
