Look Back, Look Ahead: Slovene Poetry in English Translation
March 21, 2015, 1:00 pm
at Slovene Church of St. Cyril

Ana Jelnikar and Barbara Siegel Carlson will read Kosovel’s poems from their book Look Back, Look Ahead: The Selected Poems of Srečko Kosovel (Ugly Duckling Presse 2010), which they co-translated from Slovene into English. This selection—from his more lyrical and impressionistic poems to his avant-garde verses—aims to introduce Kosovel to readers who have never heard of him before. “The U.S. environment was always a very grateful audience for Slovene poetry, yet, the great reception of Kosovel exceeded all my expectations,” says Jelnikar. Come and experience this gem of Slovene poetry from the 1920s in the acclaimed contemporary English translation. (The poetry reading will be preceded (11 am - 1 pm) by the making of “butarice”, traditional Slovene evergreen arrangements for Palm Sunday.) More event information here.
