Lydia Davis and Holly Melgard at the Poetry Project
October 19, 2022, 8:00 pm
at The Poetry Project

Turn up the dial on the work and motives of our speech, and what blares out is a kind of joke. Dancing or performing at the edge of devastation, wonder, terror – or it’s not a joke at all, it’s actually just grammars and idioms coming apart under pressure, dissembling with all the delight of some kind of finally. Finally comes so suddenly, and then again differently. Holly Melgard and Lydia Davis hear the places where longing, aggression, expectation possess and dispossess us. Where accident or misspeaking happen, is that when we are really speaking?
