* P r o s e P r o s *hosted by Martha King & Elinor Nauen Ammiel Alcalay poet, novelist, translator, critic, and scholar, teaches at Queens College and The Graduate Center, CUNY. His books include After Jews and Arabs, Memories of Our Future, Islanders, neither wit nor gold:( from then), From the Warring Factions, and A Little History. His translations include Sarajevo Blues and Nine Alexandrias by Bosnian poet Semezdin Mehmedinović. He was awarded a 2017 American Book Award from The Before Columbus Foundation for his work as founder and General Editor of Lost & Found: The CUNY Poetics Document Initiative. Tiokasin Ghosthorse is a member of the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation of South Dakota and has a long history of Indigenous activism and advocacy. Tiokasin is the Founder, Host and Executive Producer of “First Voices Radio” (formerly “First Voices Indigenous Radio”) for the last 26 years in New York City and Seattle/Olympia, Washington. He recently received a Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 2016 from the International Institute of Peace Studies and Global Philosophy. He is currently a Nominee for a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship 2018. Tiokasin co-authored the book Butterfly Against the Wind with Jadina Lilien (copies available at the reading). All readings take place in the back room of the SideWalk Cafe.
