July 21, 2011, 7:00 pm
at Dan Flavin Art Institute
Dia is pleased to host poet and translator Matvei Yankelevich at The Dan Flavin Art Institute for a reading and discussion of his own work within the context of Koo Jeong A's series of ink drawings and Dan Flavin's fluorescent sculptures.
The Dan Flavin Art Institute was established in 1983, under the direction of Flavin himself, as a permanent home for nine works in fluorescent light created by the artist between 1963 and 1981, in addition to a gallery for temporary exhibitions. Currently, 60 newly commissioned works on photographic paper by contemporary artist Koo Jeong A are on view through October 16, 2011.
Matvei Yankelevich is the author of Boris by the Sea (Octopus Books) and the forthcoming poetry collection In the Sunlight of Unemployment (United Artists). His translations from Russian have been published in magazines including Harper's and The New Yorker. He is an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse, and currently teaches at Hunter College, Columbia University School of the Arts, and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.
