Solo Exhibition at the Granoff Center: ONE LINE OF TEXT (TO BE READ FROM NEEDLE HOLES) March 12-April 6 Jen Bervin’s site-specific installation at the Granoff Center references the tiraz, an form of Egyptian linen cloth (862 A.D.) with an epigraphical band of text in kufi embroidered in silk. The wrapping window text comes from the epigraphist’s description of the tiraz: “One line of text in very small, neat kufi, extremely worn, in large part to be read from needle holes and merely conjectural”; the work in the lower gallery maps the remains of the embroidered inscription in needle holes and red silk.
