September 3, 2015, 7:30 pm
at Dixon Place

About The ShowA new work by performance collective Tight Braid Group, developed during their recent residency at Dixon Place. The piece premiering at Dixon Place this September is an experimental Greek tragedy and a meditation on the outsider body in a struggle with the State. The play braids together the stories of US soldier turned whistleblower Chelsea Manning, a gay Jewish Weimar-era sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld, and martyr lore to explore timeless issues of transparency, utopias, and the struggle for truth. Tight Braid Group is a performance collective founded by Leslie Allison and Francis Weiss Rabkin. Tight Braid Group weaves together strands from diverse practices and experiences to tell complex stories and build tight community bonds. Collaborators include poets, playwrights, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, and others. Tight Braid Group is anchored in a research and rehearsal practice that prioritizes emotional and political engagement. Tight Braid Group currently is in residence at Dixon Place and will be presenting new work in September 2015. Leslie Allison is a writer and performer.
