In Ita ha’eñoso / Ya no está sola la piedra Formerly and Again Known as Pyambu / Dream Pattering Soles, indigenous poet Miguelángel Meza points to another way of conceiving the world, working with a lyrical structure that draws from Mbyá Guaraní cosmology. In the first poem, a voice mournfully speaks their loneliness in the dark before the world, and the world begins. Thus, the origin of earth is traced to the utterance of the first ñe’ë, or word-soul.  Meza renders the individual out of the communal in these poems, claiming authorship through his lyric syntheses of a communal narrative. In so doing, the poet suggests through those that came before him, that identity materializes through erasure, not mark-making. This is a trilingual edition containing the poet’s original Guaraní, and its Spanish and English translations.
