In a year of increased precarity for the literary arts—a year that saw the loss of our $25,000 NEA grant—Ugly Duckling Presse has continued to publish work that opposes coercion, utility, and profit. 

In 2025, UDP released ten full-length books and six chapbooks, including translations from seven different languages: Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Guyanese Creole, Greek, French, and German. UDP authors and translators performed at 73 readings around the world, and our studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn welcomed over 300 guests at readings, class visits, and workshops.

The defunding of arts and literature only amplifies their societal importance. To continue serving the literary community, UDP is dedicated to strengthening our organization’s long-term sustainability. Support from people like you—readers, authors, translators, and friends—makes everything we do possible. We are asking for donations in any amount that is meaningful to you.

To show our thanks, we are very excited to offer some special, limited time gifts to our supporters:

UDP is a frugal organization that has blossomed through fervent and utopian belief in the potential of volunteer effort. We cut our corners and stretch our dollars, so whatever you give will go a long way. A donation of $400 procures foreign language rights for a book in translation; $1150 funds an apprentice’s monthly stipend, $2000 covers the production cost of one of our chapbooks; $3000 pays for a month of rent and utilities; and $4000 for the print run of a modest book of poems.

UDP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since its incorporation in 2003 and is a registered charity in New York State; all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.*

*Tax-deductible amounts — The gift for $75 has a $19 value ($56 is tax-deductible), the gift for $150 has a $35 value ($115 is tax-deductible), the gift for $500 has a $130 value ($370 is tax-deductible), and the gift for $2000 has a $240 value ($1760 is tax-deductible).
