Emergency Gazette was a free, bi-weekly broadsheet published by UDP from 1999 to 2002 that reimagined forms of critical response to theater, film, and performance art. Rejecting the constraints of conventional consumer reviewing, the Gazette published experimental essays, manifestos, proposals, dialogues, and on-the-ground reports from rehearsal spaces, theaters, screenings, and other sites of performance in and around New York City. It was distributed at theaters, bookstores, and cafes primarily in New York City but also in Boston, Philadelphia, and beyond. While the “Bros. Lumière” served as editors-in-chief for the broadsheet’s run, several writers and editors were deeply involved with the production process, including Yelena Gluzman, Matvei Yankelevich, Filip Marinovich, Luna Zeygman, Amy Fusselman, Eli Rarey, and Ben Spatz. Emergency Gazette was the first project in the Emergency performance series, which has since included Emergency Playscripts and the annual Emergency INDEX.

Emergency Gazette published 39 issues, most of which are digitally archived here.
